Valkyrie Elysium is Getting a Demo

Ahead of its public release, Square Enix’s upcoming action-RPG Valkyrie Elysium is getting a free playable demo on PS4 and PS5.

Upcoming Square Enix’s action-RPG Valkyrie Elysium is getting a playable demo ahead of its public release later this month. First announced at the PlayStation State of Play event last March, Valkyrie Elysium looks to bring back the charm of the long-forgotten JRPG series that started with Valkyrie Profile in 1999, this time in a more modern package that eschews the series’ tactics-based gameplay.

Prior to this, Square Enix had already announced the official release dates of Valkyrie Elysiumwhich might differ depending on which platform players will play the game on. Valkyrie Elysium is set to launch first on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on September 29, while the PC version will follow on November 11. In the meantime, though, PlayStation users will get the chance to familiarize themselves with Valkyrie Elysium ahead of its release as Square Enix is launching a demo version via the PlayStation Network.

For the info on the PlayStation Store, the demo version of Valkyrie Elysium will be available on September 15, allowing players to enjoy the first chapter of the game. To make it more convenient for players, Square Enix is also allowing them to transfer the save data from the demo version to the retail version. This means that players can get to know some of the characters in Valkyrie Elysiumand then continue their progress come September 29.

While it technically serves as the latest entry in the Valkyrie series, Valkyrie Elysium isn’t a sequel to any of the previous games. Instead, Valkyrie Elysium will carry its own original story, meaning that players who are new to the franchise can still enjoy it without having to delve into the past Valkyrie games. That being said, fans of the series will probably enjoy the familiar setting and themes in Valkyrie Elysiumwhich are once again heavily influenced by Norse mythology.

Also different is how the game approaches combat as Valkyrie Elysium is adopting high-tempo action-based combat that relies on combo systems, similar to what players would get in games like Nier: Automata. This demo version will surely allow players to acquaint themselves with how the combat system works, while also at the same time experimenting with some of the different playstyles that the game supports.

A free demo for an upcoming video game is always a great opportunity for players to find out if the game is really for them, and this one for Valkyrie Elysium certainly serves the same purpose. Whether the game would live up to the legacy of the Valkyrie franchise remains to be seen.

Valkyrie Elysium will launch on September 29 for PS4 and PS5, and on November 11 for PC.
